Refugee Empowerment Center resettled 114 refugees in 2019.

Refugee Empowerment Center (REC) resettled 114 refugees in 2019 and helped about 120 refugees find jobs through our employment program. Big thanks to our employees for working so hard, hustling to make sure these families are secure and taken care of. And, to you, Omaha, thanks for being so welcoming and generous! Thank you to all who donated. You make an impact in the work we do to support refugees in our community!

Our mission is to resettle refugees in Nebraska and provide them with the support they need to become self-sufficient. We are living this mission every day with the support of our community partners, volunteers, employees and generous donors. In 2019, we also launched Project Refuge, handmade candles by refugees. These candles are all-natural, soy lotion candles and locally made right here in Omaha. In just under 3 months we have sold $25,000 worth of candles! These funds go right back into REC, supporting programs like Employment training and ESL classes so refugees can begin to rebuild their lives here. We are looking forward to seeing where Project Refuge can go from here!
